I need to identify the pest on my hibiscus = need search hints?

The leaves look like something white was spilled on them - when you look closer it almost looks like a web and on the underside of the leaf is a glistening web and it looks like 3 egg or ball shaped objects = like spider eggs. I live in the valleys of southern california. I've tried searching google %26amp; other engines but am having trouble.

the other person's answer is probably right. It sounds like you might also have mealy bugs, as they do fit the description of a spider egg sac. Wash the plant of warm soapy water and make sure you wipe away under the leaves. Keep separate from other plants. You might also have a powdery mildew, which will require a fungal disinfectant. Go to a plant store and ask about what brand is the best. Don't go to Wal mart or other stores like that. They know diddlesquat. Cut away infected leaves to keep it from spreading to other leaves and plants. Good luck.
Reply:I cannot be sure but it sounds like spider mites. If you check on the internet you will find a lot about it.
Reply:Sounds like you have white flies. They LOVE Hibiscus, and they're fairly common in Southern California. Luckily, they're pretty easy to control. Just spray your plants with water, especially the undersides of the leaves. If you do this consistently, they will be controlled. If you want to just spray them with something, Safer's or some other insecticidal soap will take care of them pretty easily. If you leave them as is, something that looks like sticky cotton will start hanging off the leaves, and the plant will become stressed.

Check out the attached article for more information.
Reply:Spray the plant with White Oil. It's probably mealy bug, they are annoying and love hibiscus. There are probably ants on the tree as well. The ants eat the mealy bug, but also can carry the bug to other parts of the garden.

Reply:Spider mites or aphids.
Reply:Get a piece of white paper and shake the flower over it, you should be able to see small red or yellowish dots. If you do then for sure you have mites. If not you might have a fungus.Take a sample to the home depot and they should be able to identify it and give you something to treat it.
