Why does my Hibiscus bush have light green leaves?

In the last 2 months all the new growth has been lime green w/ dark veins?? what can I do to fix it?? I'm in Arizona and this bush is very well established..... Any suggestions??

Sounds like you have a micronutrient deficiency!! It is not nitrogen because the entire leaf would be yellow. It is probably something like magnesium or iron. Interveinal chlorosis (or yellowing on leafy tissue between the veins) is a very typical symptom of a micronutirent deficiency.



You can buy a micro mix at your local garden center. Apply it according to the label directions. You should see an improvement within a week or so! It is as simple as that!
Reply:If the leaves have light tissue, but dark veins, then you're probably dealing with an iron deficiency. Use a fertilizer like Miracid (by the people who make Miracle-Gro) to help the plant use the iron that's in the soil. If this isn't the case, then you may simply need to fertlize it. The three numbers on the label of a fertilizer container correspond to nitrogen, potassium, and phosphate; get a fertilizer that has a higher first number for nitrogen (which helps the leaves). A high *middle* number encourages blooming, but if the plant's leaves aren't healthy, it will have fewer and smaller blossoms. Also take into consideration that your water might have contaminants in it - water softeners in particular can be the culprit if you have installed one and then notice a change in your plants. Finally, you may want to find a university with an horticulturist (some have extension agents from a state's agriculture department). You should be able to take a sample of the plant to them, and perhaps get a better handle on the problem.

Have you fertilized it on a regular basis?



The middle number on fertilizer is the nitrogen use something like

6 -10 - 6 to boost the nitrogen. Take a soil sample to your local extension office and have the soil tested, it may be the PH of the soil.
Reply:It doesn't have enough iron. Mix epson salt in water and spray on it. This is cheap and works on most plants.

Reply:Here, we have chlorine added to our water to kill germs. If that is the problem with your drinking water, use filtered water. It could be that they are not getting enough light. Also, I read that it results from a deficiency of iron in the soil. Buy fertilizer with iron added. Miracle Grow brand is good.
