When I lived in Australia for a year I was amused to see that they have very traditional decorations at Christmas...fake snow on the windows, tinsel, fir trees etc....I though they looked so tacky under the hot sun and felt they should have used more of the things indigenous to the country...I put Hibiscus flowers all over our christmas tree and also cookies shaped like kangaroos....everyone loved it and my neighbor did her own version...do you think manufacturers in hot countries ought to make their own traditions like this?
Christmas decorations in hot countries?
That would be quite cool! I live in NZ so its obviously hot here too. I once went into a Rebel Sport shop and their christmas tree was covered in Jandles (thongs, flipflops) it looked really summery :)
Reply:I think your creative and have a possible item that may be in demand for hot countries.
However, the snow stuff is influenced by European thinking, TV shows and that Santa is from the North Pole. People from hot countries may think that snow is mysteriously cool...
Anyway, whether you go evergreen or with snow... you still gotta have the lights or candles!
Reply:Maybe but the traditionals look great in my opinion. It is all like that because of Nth/Sth pole and then it is not really right if it isn't like normla
Reply:that's quite a good idea, actually....
Reply:I live in the desert right now. And I will decorate my apartment the traditional way (I am from Europe) and I will see that I can go this indoors skiing place they have here, for some wintery feeling, I don't ski though but it would be nice to have a hot tea at the cafe there. There will be hardly any decoration elsewhere, except the shopping malls here because X-Mass is not a tradition in this country. But I actually love the 'standard' decoration because I always get a bit homesick around Christmas :( Unfortunatly I won't be able to go home for the holidays this year, but I hope I can make our Christmas nice anyway. But what you did is cool, too.
