Food for high blood pressure?
Hi Elsie1912, I get hibiscus tea sent over from Egypt. I think you can get it on the internet too, but I have not found a local shop with it. I don't know of any specific food htat will lower BP on its own. Exercise and plain low fat diet, plus geting rid of stress goes a long way. Limit or don't eat red meat and eggs; up the spinach and green leaf veg; couple of glasses of red wine helps too. I've got my BP now to 125/76. Need to maintain my weight though.
Reply:Porridge for breakfast is a good idea. It makes a good, filling meal so you won't feel like snacking.

High salt levels in food are a major cause of high blood pressure. You can buy low-salt bread now. Tinned vegetables are another source of salt, so frozen are better. Fresh vegetables are, of course, best of all.

Ready made meals are another cause of high salt intake. They may be convenient but that comes at too big a price, your health.

Alcohol and smoking both send the blood pressure rocketing. So if you want to reduce your blood pressure they're both off the menu.

Exercise is another way of reducing blood pressure levels. It might help you loose weight and being overweight is yet another risk factor.
Reply:Only 3 things, other than conventional medication, help with raised blood pressure.

1) Be as close to your ideal weight as possible

2) Take regular vigorous CV exercise

3) Lower your salt intake

Though all of these help, I am afraid I have never seen a patient with established hypertension avoid medication.

If your BP is high enough for your GP to have given you a diagnosis of hypertension it is foolish and dangerous to try and avoid medication. You risk heart attack and stroke!
Reply:Get the salt out of the house, even salt substitutes. Look here www.gicare.com/pated/edtot43.htm

Low fat, little alcohol, bit of exercise, learn to meditate.
Reply:just eat a low salt and low fat diet and lots of friut and veggies it will help a lot, just live a healthy lifestyle...
