all the homemaid treatments for aphids that i have tried have done damage to my plants and not gotten rid of the aphids. i have a hibiscus that is suffering the worst. i have tried this clove oil stuff, pepper oil and watered down soap.
Go away aphids!!!?
Aphid populations can be epidemic and hard to deal with especially on larger plants, like trees. I'm surprised the diluted soap didn't work. Apparently the soap washes off the protective coating on the insects and they end up dehydrating. Another method you might try involves chopping up a bulb of garlic with a little water in your blender, then pouring a pint or so of boiling water over the whole concoction, let stand for a few hours(or a day), then straining it. Using a mister spray your affected plants making sure you get the undersides of the leaves as well. Hopefully this will work for you. Personally I'd try the diluted dish soap again too!
