Growing a hibiscus plant?
It can also be mealybug. You should try to get it under control right away. Any home-improvement store (Home Depot, Lowe's, etc) would carry insectcides to kill the bugs. Insecticidal soap can be more beneficial to your hibiscus as it breaks down into fertilizer, but can be more expensive than say, Ortho's systemic insectcide. Hope all goes well with your plant.
Reply:It sounds like you need to treat your hibiscus for an insect called scales,if you don't rid your hibiscus of them, then yes it will eventually die. Any garden shop will have treatment powders for this.Good luck and Happy Gardening!
Reply:Everyone had pretty good advice. The one thing I didn't see is this...remove that plant from the rest of your plants if you can until the problem is fixed. For instance, if it's in a pot move it away from the other plants or you'll risk getting them infected as well. There's nothing worse than losing a plant you love except losing several of the plants you love. Oh and if you have a camera it's good to take a picture of the white spots on the plant so that you show it to sales person at the garden center/Lowes/Home Depot. It makes your life soooo much easier when they can see what you problem is rather than having to guess what it is based on a description. This has saved my plants plenty of times at my local nursery when I've had a question or problem with a plant.
Reply:I had a problem just like yours. The one I had was yellow. I had to treat the bush and ground with diluted bleach water. They (white flies, aphids ) kept coming back. The guy at home depot told me to get lady bugs. They eat the insect. It still didn't help. I even cut it back. I finally had to remove it and treat the ground with bleach water. I planted a red one. It is doing great.
