I have several hibiscus varieties in my garden.?

I noticed that the blooms don't last very long. After the flowers have fully opened, they drop off after about one day. We'd like to enjoy the blooms a little longer. Is this nornal?

Yes, this is normal. If you are watering and feeding appropriately for the plant, there should always be plenty of blooms so you won't notice that they are dropping on a daily basis.
Reply:Yes, I agree with everyone above, the fact that those big beautiful blooms only last for one day is a big disappointment. To enjoy them a little longer, float them in a bowl of water, but even then they don't last long. Rose of sharon by the way has much longer lasting blooms. In Zone 9 where I live, they stayed blooming for nearly a month.
Reply:I think it is normal. My hibiscus has huge beautiful red blooms.....that last one day. All of the hibiscus bushes and trees I have seen only last a day. but im not a gardening expert.
Reply:Yes, that is normal. I have a perennial hibiscus and it drops it's flowers after one day. However, Rose of Sharon keep their flowers longer. Not sure how long, but I just purchased some clearanced and rather sickly rose of Sharon bushes and they have kept their flowers for the last few days.
Reply:Yes, this is perfectly normal for a Hibiscus, whether it is a tropical one or a perennial type. The blossoms only last one day. The blooms appear on new growth so you can prune them back to make more growth, or sprouts for more blooms.
